NPC Journalism Awards announcement set for June 25
Winners of the National Press Club journalism contest will be announced in a story on the Wire at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 25. The Club’s Board of Governors will vote on the winner’s list at its meeting tonight, June 23. The awards will be presented at a dinner on Wednesday, July 30, at the Club. The winners represent some of the best journalism in 2013 from around the country. The winners will be notified in person, as they can be reached, after the awards story moves on the Wire.

Drop by the Club for lunch and watch Team USA try to advance to the next round of the tournament as it takes on Germany at noon on Thursday, June 26, in the Truman Lounge. Lobsters crawl into summer at Fourth Estate, June 25
Celebrate the solstice and the start of summer in Washington at the Fourth Estate restaurant's Lobster Night from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 25. National Press Club members pay $25 and non-members $30 for a steamed 1 ¼ pound Maine Lobster with coleslaw (or salad) and choice of french fries or oven crisped new potatoes. The National Press Club Journalism Institute will co-host with The Poynter Institute on June 30 a forum focused on women in the newsroom culture, a conversation invigorated by the recent firing of New York Times executive editor Jill Abramson. Drone advocates urge FAA regulations, fly drone in Club lobby
The lack of Federal Aviation Administration regulations is hampering the use of drones in photography, missing person searches, environmental monitoring, law enforcement and other activities, advocates said at a National Press Club Newsmaker event on June 18. After the press conference, a commercial photographer and drone pilot, Parker Gyokeres, flew a helicopter-like drone approximately two feet in diameter in a cleared area of the Club lobby.
