"Off to Join the Circus" focuses on an overly enmeshed, neurotic Jewish family in the Washington area, and what happens when a teenage runaway returns after 64 years. Members and their guests are invited to attend the free event, but reservations are encouraged due to limited space.

Kalb, a former Washington-based journalist who covered Congress and politics, has written several fiction books for kids and nonfiction books for adults. This is her first novel for adults. In addition to writing books, Kalb hosts the blog Book Q&As with Deborah Kalb, where she interviews an eclectic range of authors, and co-hosts a new podcast "Rereading Our Childhood."
