Interior Secretary Jewell to discuss shutdown's impact on national parks, value of federal lands at Oct. 31 luncheon

Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell, in the aftermath of the federal government shutdown, plans to discuss the economic value of our nation's national parks and other public lands at a National Press Club luncheon 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31.

Lunch is served at 12:30 p.m.. Remarks begin promptly at 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 2 p.m.

Tickets cost $21 for Press Club members (NPC members may purchase 2 tickets at this rate) and $35 for all other non-member tickets.

Jewell, the former president and CEO of Recreational Equipment, Inc., known as REI, became Interior Secretary on April 12, placing her in charge of the stewardship of 20 percent of the nation's land, including national parks and national wildlife refuges. The Interior Department is also the largest supplier and manager of water resources in 17 western states and manages the development of oil and natural gas on public lands and waters.
