If it's Tuesday, it's Rewind

"From the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. This is Rewind," Ken Giglio said when he kicked off the first production of Rewind on January 7, 2011.

The nearly one-year-old weekly program is a three-minute video that recaps the previous week's events held at the National Press Club. Rewind is delivered on The Wire and is posted on the NPC home page and YouTube each Tuesday.

The 45 productions to date include highlights of luncheon speakers, newsmakers, and other well-known speakers such as Gov. Mitch Daniels, Sen. Jim Webb, retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, Sen. Diane Feinstein, actors Gary Sinise and Jennifer Hudson, and Adm. Mike Mullen. The National Press Club's winning softball team, the broadcast studio productions, and the food and wine events in the Fourth Estate have also been profiled. All productions are archived on the NPC website and are available to Club members as well as the general public.

Production of Rewind is a cooperative effort between the Broadcast Operations Center staff, a changing group of interns, and dedicated Cub member volunteers. Volunteer Mike Hempen works with the interns every week to review their sound bite selection and help with scripting. Ryan Dillenbeck, staff engineer in the Broadcast studios, edits Rewind and provides technical guidance to the interns as they learn to shoot for the video program. Adam Konowe, vice-chairman of the Broadcast committee, schedules Phil Chordas, Ken Giglio, Sofia Mannos, Pat McGrath, and Steve Taylor, who volunteer to track the script.

The idea for Rewind, conceived by Vija Udenans, director of Broadcast Operations, found immediate support from the members of the Broadcast committee. The committee, led by Chairman Ken Mellgren, contributed funds from its budget to help buy a much needed semi-professional DV camera that the interns use to shoot the events.

Executive Chef Susan Delbert's comment: "Y'all just do a spectacular job with Rewind. So many people from which to choose. I had no idea this week was so jam-packed with faces. Really nice job," is typical of feedback received on Rewind.
