The workshop teaches the essential skills to craft documentary-style news stories for broadcast or online publication. Learn the art of storytelling in video journalism and the key elements of a compelling news story, and practice writing pitches. Discover the equipment and tools needed, from video cameras to audio gear, and explore shooting techniques, composition basics, and the art of engaging interviews. The workshop includes hands-on exercises for students to practice camera skills, including setting up an interview and capturing a B-roll sequence.

Jenny Montasir has more than 10 years of experience working as a video journalist and documentary filmmaker. For four years she was based in Egypt covering women's rights and social-justice issues. Her work has been featured on the BBC, the New York Times, MSNBC, the Huffington Post, Voice of America, AJ+, Time magazine and the Guardian. Previously, she was an adjunct lecturer teaching multimedia storytelling at Northwestern University.
