Communicators Team to host virtual sessions on working with the media, members of Congress, Oct. 1 and Oct. 8

Learn how to enhance and build relationships with the media and members of Congress during two separate virtual professional development sessions the National Press Club’s Communicators Team has lined up.

Tomorrow, Oct. 1, at 12 p.m. Ed Barks, a former member of the Club’s board of governors and an experienced communications strategy consultant, will lead a discussion on how to work with the media to achieve critical business and public policy goals.

Barks is expected to provide tips for developing magnetic messaging, granting interviews and engaging audiences on digital media. A former broadcaster and congressional aide, Barks recently published "Reporters Don’t Hate You: 100+ Amazing Media Relations Strategies," a reliable, convenient go-to guide for working with the media.

Registration for this virtual meeting is free and open to Club members only.

On Thursday, Oct. 8 at 12 p.m., the Communicators Team will host a virtual conversation about meaningful ways to communicate effectively with federal lawmakers and stakeholders. Mike Fulton, a veteran Club member and director of public affairs and advocacy for the Asher Agency, will moderate a panel that will include communicators, advocates and a U.S. Senate legislative assistant.

This session will focus on gaining a better understanding of the best practices for working with members of Congress and their staffs. The panelists will describe how involving government leaders can add a new dimension to a campaign or push an issue or a project over the finish line.

Registration for this virtual meeting is also free and open only to Club members.

The Communicators Team comprises professional communicators who support government, corporate and non-profit organizations. The team organizes activities to provide networking and educational opportunities for all NPC members.
