Many communications campaigns support legislative or regulatory advocacy efforts, and it is helpful to better understand best practices for working with members of Congress and their staff.

Join the Communicators Team of the National Press Club for a virtual conversation about meaningful ways to work with federal lawmakers and stakeholders. It will be conducted during a Zoom videoconference on Thursday, Oct. 8 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. EDT. Registration is free and available to Club members only.

Public affairs is by far one of the most beneficial yet overlooked tactics in the strategic communications world. Involving government leaders can add a new dimension to a campaign or push an issue or a project over the finish line. Even in times of divisiveness, working with government should be strongly considered.

Results speak volumes:

  • legislation enacted,
  • regulations modified,
  • grants and contracts awarded,
  • third-party validation of product services and programs,
  • successful nominations to federal advisory boards,
  • earned media placement, and
  • amplification of social media outreach.

Mike Fulton, director of public affairs and advocacy for Asher Agency, will moderate the panel discussion that includes communicators, advocates and a U.S. Senate legislative assistant. Fulton is a former Capitol Hill aide, advocacy communicator and National Press Club member.
