Reception for Club members' photo exhibit takes place Sept. 6

A reception to celebrate the National Press Club's annual photography exhibit takes place beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, in the Fourth Estate room. The event is free with a cash bar.

To attend, please RSVP online.

The exhibit, which opened last week, featured 209 digital images and print photos from 54 members. The images will be displayed in the Club's main lobby through Friday, Sept. 29.

At the reception, participants will hear from Yevgen Nemchenko, founder of the Conflicted Art collection, an exhibit of Ukrainian works on display at various sites in Washington. Nemchenko will talk about Maks Levin, the news photographer reportedly captured and executed by Russian troops last March. The Club's Photography Team is honoring Levin in the exhibit's print photo display.

Photo of emergency room nurse

News photography is the core of the annual exhibit, with first-time exhibit participant B.P. Miller providing a portrait of an emergency room nurse five weeks into the COVID 19 lockdown in May 2020, the reporter-photographer team of Elaine and Phil Pasquini displaying prints and digital images from former Soviet republics along the Silk Road in central Asia, and Skip Kaltenheuser showing Kyiv in November 2010, before the Russian invasion. Other images include one taken by Celeste McCall of supporters of former President Donald Trump at the on Jan. 6, 2021, and another by Jean Gossman of the impromptu public vigil for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the steps of the Supreme Court in Septembere 2020. This year's collection supplements photojournalism with wildlife photography from literally the ends of the earth -- both the Arctic and Antarctic regions -- along with landscape, urban, architecture, art, sports, and street photography from locations worldwide. Ben Lowenthal's images combine street and art photography from Italy with a Federico Fellini vibe. The exhibit catalog now is now live, including photos by Levin provided by Reuters.
