Reporting From A Conflict Zone: A Talk With The AP's Kathy Gannon

15

The Middle East is becoming increasingly dangerous for journalists, and in this edition of Update-1 we hear from a correspondent who risks her life to tell stories from that region. Kathy Gannon has been covering Afghanistan and Pakistan for The Associated Press for nearly 30 years and was severely wounded last year when an Afghan police officer opened fire on her vehicle. Her colleague, AP photographer Anja Niedringhaus, was killed in that incident. Gannon describes how threats to journalists in the Middle East are changing, her methods for mitigating danger, and why she plans to return to work even after that deadly attack. National Press Club member Violet Ikonomova hosts.
