Franklin Delano Roosevelt Becomes an NPC Member

1

March 29, 1933: President Franklin D. Roosevelt became a National Press Club member and was assigned to cover the White House. In the above newsreel video from British Pathé, he accepts his membership card from NPC president Raymond P. Brandt of the St. Louis Post Dispatch and makes a joke about not getting a salary to date despite having been inaugurated two months earlier. During the ceremony Roosevelt’s favorite song - "Home, Home on the Range" - was sung by Metropolitan Opera singer Charles Thomas at the black tie dinner in the president's honor for the Club's Silver Jubilee.
