Washington-based regional reporters compete for National Press Club honors

For Washington-based regional reporters, translating complex news from the nation’s capital for readers in cities, states and regions they represent is a difficult job. The National Press Club journalism contest seeks to recognize the best of this important work, which has become even more challenging in recent years.

The 2012 winner was Maureen Groppe of The Indianapolis Star.

The deadline for entering the NPC Journalism Contest is April 1, so pick your entries and mail them soon.

Information about the contest is at http://press.org/about/awards.

The contest includes awards for news photos, breaking news, political reporting, international coverage, consumer reporting, online journalism, coverage of the news industry and newsletter journalism. It also includes a group of awards for areas as diverse as the aviation industry, problems facing the elderly and humor writing.
