Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Chair of Caribbean Community to speak at Club on Friday, May 24

Prime Minister Timothy Harris of Saint Kitts and Nevis, will speak at the National Press Club at 3 p.m. Friday, May 24, in the Bloomberg Room.

Harris serves as the chair of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community, an organization of 14 Caribbean nations established to promote economic integration and cooperation among its members, as well as a shared foreign policy.

Harris will discuss several key issues for the Caribbean nations, including climate change, hurricane disaster relief efforts, the Venezuela crisis, correspondent banking, and the digital economy. He will also take questions from reporters.

Harris became prime minister in 2015. It is an independent state in the commonwealth of the United Kingdom. He previously served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister for Finance, and Minister for Agriculture. After he was fired in 2013 from the cabinet of Prime Minister Denzil Douglas, Harris established the People's Labour Party (PLP) and later ran for prime minister.
