Press Club to host screening of documentary on investigative reporting in Mexico

The Club, along with Reporters Without Borders, is hosting a screening of a new PBS documentary, Reportero, at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12. The documentary looks at the risks of investigative journalism in Mexico.

The film follows a veteran reporter and his colleagues at Zeta, the Tijuana-based independent newsweekly, as they ply their trade in one of the deadliest places in the world for members of the media. More than 40 journalists in Mexico have been slain or have vanished since December 2006, when President Felipe Calderón came to power and launched a government offensive against the country's drug cartels. As the drug war intensified, the risk to journalists became greater.

You can watch the trailer at www.pbs.org/pov/reportero. The film is scheduled to air nationally at 10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7.
