NPC Luncheon: Gerald R. Ford Journalism Awards Featuring Rep. Fred Upton & David Gergen June 3

Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., and David Gergen, senior political analyst for CNN, will be the featured speakers at the 26th annual Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation journalism awards luncheon, hosted by the National Press Club at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, June 3.

The Ford Presidential Foundation will honor the winners of its annual contest for coverage of the presidency and for coverage of national defense issues. John Dickerson, chief political correspondent for Slate and political director of CBS News, won the prize for Distinguished Reporting on the Presidency.

Hal Bernton, reporter for The Seattle Times, won the prize for his coverage of national defense issues.

Josh Gerstein and Carrie Budoff Brown, both White House reporters for Politico, take home honorable mentions for their reporting on the presidency. Andrew Tilghman, Pentagon reporter for the Military Times newspapers received honorable mention for his reporting on national defense.

Ford, who had a long association with the National Press Club, established the journalism awards through his Foundation.

Upton holds Ford’s seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Representing Michigan’s sixth district, he also serves as chairman of the Committee on Energy and Commerce. Prior to his election to Congress, Upton worked for President Ronald Reagan in the Office of Management and Budget.

In addition to providing political analysis for CNN, Gergen is a professor of public service and the director of the Center for Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School. He served as White House adviser to Ford as well as U.S. presidents Richard Nixon Nixon, Reagan and Bill Clinton. He has written about his experiences as a White House advisor to four U.S. presidents in his New York Times best-seller, "Eyewitness to Power: The Essence of Leadership, Nixon to Clinton."

Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m., with remarks beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a Q-and-A session ending at 2 p.m. To purchase tickets, click here.
