Books and Brunch to meet April 14

The National Press Club Books and Brunch group will meet at noon on April 14 in the Fourth Estate Restaurant to discuss "Alex's Wake" by Martin Goldsmith.

The work is a story of two parallel journeys undertaken several decades apart. In 1939, Goldsmith's grandfather Alex and his uncle Helmut were among the 937 passengers fleeing Nazi Germany aboard the ship St. Louis. Goldsmith later spent six months following in their footsteps and tracking their fate.

Al Teich, chair of the Club's Photography Team, and his sister Judith Teich also will attend to talk about their parents' escape from the impending Nazi invasion of Poland. Their parents later landed safely in Cuba.

The event is open to all Club members at no charge. Lunch may be purchased at the restaurant.

RSVPs are strongly encouraged. Please contact Fay Iudicello at 703-989-4503 or [email protected].
