Mr. Kantor briefed reporters on the highlights of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT). The Uruguay Round of talks for this agreement were completed by 116 countries on December 15, 1993 in Geneva, Switzerland. GATT is the largest trade agreement in history and includes manufactured goods, services, investment, and agriculture.

Crisis of Crime in the U.S.
Mr. Freeh discussed the federal legislation which formed the FBI over the past several decades. As the newly appointed director, he indicated that he will be reviewing headquarters personnel, and will be working with Attorney General Reno to reduce duplication of efforts in the various federal law enforcement agencies. He emphasized the growth of gang- and organized crime-related violence in the U.S. and pledged to decrease this crisis situation.
