Reinventing HUD: New Priorities
Secretary Cisneros, former mayor of San Antonio, TX, spoke to a luncheon audience on the agenda of the Department of Housing and Urban Development under the Clinton administration. He discussed adapting HUD policies to encourage the formulation of communities in American cities, and discussed issues related to U.S. urban areas including crime and poverty. Club Scholarship Team seeks judges to pick this year's winners, June 22
The National Press Club Scholarship Team needs Club-member volunteers to select the 2019 scholarship winners on Saturday, June 22. Breakfast will start at 8:30 a.m. Judging will begin promptly at 9 a.m. and continue until 1 p.m. Volunteers will determine this year’s Zimmerman scholarship -- $5,000 for an incoming college freshman who plans to become a journalist -- and the Feldman Fellowship -- $5,000 for a journalism graduate student. Judges also will decide on a winner for the Diversity ward, a scholarship of up to $20,000 for an incoming college freshman who plans to become a journalist.…

Civil Rights Progress Since 1968
Ms. King, the widow of late civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., spoke on the progress of civil rights in America following the legacy of her husband, who had been assassinated in Memphis twenty-five years earlier. She reflected upon the Kerner Report on civil unrest that had been released March 1, 1968, and the civil rights movement following the death of her husband and 1968 presidential candidate Robert Kennedy. Caribbean leader touts nation’s growth, region’s future
