National Press Club Hosts Panel to Help Journalists Transition to Public Relations Four public affairs and communications professionals who made the transition from journalism will speak at a panel in the National Press Club’s Bloomberg Room on Thursday, October 7, 2010 from 6-7:30 p.m. The former journalists will discuss how the skills they used as journalists help them in their new profession. Location-based Tools Class
New Location Class September 27, 1pm In the location class we will start by discussing what location-based tools such as Foursquare and Facebook Places are and how they work. We will then look at how they can be used to gather information, identify sources, and promote yourself or your organization. There is a class fee of $20 for NPC members and $30 for nonmembers. Training Committee Meets Sept. 8; Venue Changes The Professional Development Committee will meet at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, in Fourth Estate at the round table in the alcove. Club members with ideas for training programs are invited to attend to pitch their ideas. The committee will hammer out the remaining training programs for 2010, including Photoshop and video classes, career coaching, editorial writing, a seminar on journalists-turned-PR experts.
