Shirin Ebadi - Iran 2003 Shirin Ebadi was awarded the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize for protecting human rights, in particular, the rights of women, children, and political prisoners in Iran. Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in India's parliament, will speak at a National Press Club Headliners Newsmaker at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10. His remarks will focus on Indian democracy, freedom of speech, and sustainable and inclusive economic growth. Gandhi heads INDIA, the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, a coalition of opposition parties that holds 234 seats in the Indian parliament.
