Drone Warfare Expert to Address NPC American Legion Post March 23
Richard Whittle, author of "Predator: The Secret Origins of the Drone Revolution," will address a luncheon meeting of National Press Club American Legion Post 20 at noon on Monday, March 23, in the McClendon Room. March 12, 1908: The first meeting to establish the National Press Club is held at 4:30 p.m. in the Brentano Building at 12th and F Streets N.W. Thirty-two eager newspapermen gather in a room lent by the Washington Chamber of Commerce, with a kitty of $300, quite a sum in those days, considering that many reporters worked for fifteen or eighteen dollars a week. Just a few days later, a second meeting is held in the F Street Parlor at the New Willard Hotel, and the Club is on its way to becoming the world’s largest, most prestigious club run by journalists, now more than a century old. IRS Commissioner John Koskinen to Speak at NPC March 31
As the April 15 tax deadline approaches, John Koskinen, commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, will speak at a National Press Club luncheon on March 31. The theme of Koskinen’s speech is “The IRS: Learning from the Past; Building for the Future.” Koskinen will address a number of issues, including GOP efforts to cut the IRS budget and what effect that might have on the agency’s customer service and collection efforts.
