All members of the National Press Club receive complimentary evening and weekend parking at the PMI garage on G Street when they spend at least $20 at the Reliable Source or Fourth Estate restaurants. March 18, 1908: The National Press Club constitution is adopted at a meeting in the F Street Parlor of the New Willard Hotel. A heated debate follows about the advisability of granting credit to members. Some argue that it is beneath the dignity of a gentleman to be asked for cash by a waiter, for example. Bob Schieffer/Marvin Kalb to speak at Hottelet Memorial Service March 21
CBS News senior correspondent Bob Schieffer and veteran retired CBS correspondent Marvin Kalb will be among the speakers paying tribute March 21 at the National Press Club to legendary journalist Richard C. Hottelet, the last of the "Murrow Boys" who invented broadcast news during World War II. Hottelet was hired at CBS by Edward R. Murrow in January 1944, and on D-Day he aired the first eyewitness account of the invasion of Normandy, flying in a bomber that attacked Utah Beach six minutes before H-Hour. Longtime CBS and NBC journalist Marvin Kalb will discuss on Nov. 20 the ways in which the Vietnam War has impacted presidential decision-making.
