No rental fee for members to reserve McClendon, Games Room and Mezzanine
Did you know that members can reserve specific space without paying room rental? The McClendon Room, the Games Room and the Mezzanine are available to members as an exceptional venue for meetings, cocktail parties and other special occasions. The space is located on the 14th floor of the National Press Club. Reservations are free for Club members, but there is a food and beverage minimum in exchange for use of the rooms at certain times. Washington Post, Rezaian family petition UN to free jailed journalism Jason Rezaian
The Washington Post disclosed Wednesday at a National Press Club Newsmaker on the first anniversary of Iran's detention of journalist Jason Rezaian that it has petitioned the United Nations to take "urgent action" to get Rezaian's release. The 38-page petition was filed with the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, which reports to the UN General Assembly's Human Rights Council. David W. Bowker, representing the Post and Rezaian's family, said later that if the Working Group acts quickly, Iran would have 60 days to respond. "Ghost Fleet" author says book depicts plausible scenario of cyber war with China, Russia
Peter W. Singer, co-author of the techno-thriller "Ghost Fleet" and a senior fellow at the New America Foundation, warned at a National Press Club appearance Thursday that research for his book has him worried that China's military "is building better and moving faster" than official Washington realizes. The Right Rev. John Richard Bryant, senior bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, will discuss the Charleston, S.C., church shootings at a National Press Club luncheon on Wednesday, Aug. 12. At a prayer vigil after the shootings, Bryant invoked the African-American legacy of resilience, saying the shooting suspect, Dylann Roof, had "picked the wrong place and the wrong crowd."
