Rear Admiral Tim Woods of Britain's Royal Navy will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of American Legion Post 20, scheduled for noon Wednesday, June 21, in the Cosgrove Lounge. Woods is Britain's defense attaché in Washington, and he previously served as defense attaché in Ukraine. He will offer his perspective on common U.S.-U.K. national security issues, ranging from the war in Ukraine to tensions with China. Painter's Pet Project Promotes #JournalismMatters
My 12-year-old rescue dog Lily has a new claim to fame. Her portrait has been painted by self-described "outsider artist" Erika Bleiberg, and the likeness is striking. Bleiberg has been painting portraits of journalists' pets for free for several years as a way to thank them for their work, posting on social media with the hashtag #JournalismMatters. Members of the Communicators Team recently hosted a “Lunch and Learn” session on the rapid growth and popularity of short-form video content. TikTok popularized the format and other social media platforms have quickly adapted with features such as Instagram Reels and Facebook Reels to encourage the creation and consumption of short videos. Longtime Club volunteer Marshall Cohen recognized for service to American Scandinavian Association
The American Scandinavian Association awarded longtime Club volunteer Marshall H. Cohen its Henry Hanson Award on May 22 at St. John's Church in Bethesda in recognition of his outstanding service to the association and the Nordic community. The award, named for one of the ASA's original founders, is presented annually. Cohen is a past president and vice president of ASA and serves currently as an ex officio member of the board of directors. Cohen founded NPC's Photography Committee, now Photograph Team, and has volunteered his time to photograph Club events for 42 years.
