Colleagues and friends of the counter-culture author and journalist who died earlier in the year discussed Thompson's impact on journalism, culture and politics. They talked about how they met Hunter Thompson and worked with him and about his lifestyle. Will Durst moderated the discussion. Corey Seymour was Hunter Thompson's editorial assistant at Rolling Stone magazine and co-editor of the magazine's tribute issue to Hunter Thompson. Sister In The Band Of Brothers: Embedded In Iraq
Ms. Skiba talked about her book Sister In the Band Of Brothers: Embedded With the 101st Airborne In Iraq, published by University Press of Kansas. She traveled to Iraq as an embedded reporter with the 159th Aviation Brigade. As one of only 60 female reporters in Iraq, she detailed her experiences as the only female civilian among 2,300 soldiers. The author describes her interaction with the soldiers, from "media boot camp" to the end of her assignment. Ms. Skiba answered questions from members of the audience after her presentation.

Filibuster Ad Campaign
Participating by satellite connection, Mr. Lear announced that the Foundation is launching a multimillion dollar national advertising and grassroots campaign to urge senators to preserve the use of the Senate rule known as the filibuster in preventing votes on judicial nominations. The ad features Los Angeles firefighter Mr. Nenoni. Mr. Neas described the 200-year history of the Senate filibuster rule, as well as the current effort by Senate Republicans to limit its use. The participants answered reporters' questions.

The New European Constitution
Mark Hendrick, member of the British Parliament and its European Scrutiny Select Committee, will talk about the new European constitution. He first covered the history of the European Union, described its components, and talked about the Treaty of the Constitution of Europe which was signed by European heads of state in October 2004. He said the Treaty of the Constitution now awaits ratification by all 25 member countries of the European Union. He noted that there is some concern that the United Kingdom might reject the treaty. After his presentation he answered audience members' questions.
