Mattie Stepanek read from his new book Hope Through Heartsongs, published by Hyperion. A question and answer period followed the reading. Mattie Stepanek, age 11, has been writing poetry since he was three. He is the author of two other books, Heartsongs and Journey Through Heartsongs. In 2002, Mattie, who lives with a rare form of muscular dystrophy, became the national ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. After his presentation, he answered questions from the audience.

Mr. Norris discussed Racing for the Bomb, his biography of General Leslie Groves published by Steerforth Press. Leslie Groves was a career officer in the Army Corps of Engineers who became the director of the top secret Manhattan Project in 1942. He organized the construction of the 2 billion dollar project, oversaw a workforce of over 150,000, and completed the construction of the first atomic bomb in a thousand days.
