What is Journalism For? A Conversation with Jon Allsop
On April 22, 2025, at 3:00PM, the Press Freedom Center at the National Press Club will host a virtual event with author and journalist Jon Allsop. Allsop, who recently authored What is Journalism For?, will read from his book and discuss its major themes, such as the relationship between journalism and activism and what’s at stake when journalism is threatened. NPC Centennial Spelling Bee
Lawmakers and journalists are getting ready to take the stage for that most American of showdowns: a spelling bee. And the public may not get another chance to see such a spectacle for a century. One hundred years ago, the National Press Club organized a similar spelling bee, pitting members of Congress against Beltway reporters. In 1913, President Wilson attended, a member of his Cabinet moderated and an Ohio congressman won. National Press Club President Emily Wilkins will recognize journalist and communicator members for outstanding service to the Club at the Vivian Awards ceremony on Wednesday, December 11 at 6:00 p.m. The presentation will take place at the National Press Club in the First Amendment Lounge and is open to those Club members who are actively involved with one of the Club's 16 teams. "The Vivians" are named after former club president Vivian Vahlberg and honor the Club's top volunteers.

"Words of War" Film Screening and Panel Discussion
Words of War tells the story of world-renowned journalist and human rights activist Anna Politkovskaya, whose fearless reporting exposed corruption, human rights abuses, and war crimes—ultimately leading to her assassination in 2006.
