Crisis of Crime in the U.S.
Mr. Freeh discussed the federal legislation which formed the FBI over the past several decades. As the newly appointed director, he indicated that he will be reviewing headquarters personnel, and will be working with Attorney General Reno to reduce duplication of efforts in the various federal law enforcement agencies. He emphasized the growth of gang- and organized crime-related violence in the U.S. and pledged to decrease this crisis situation.

The Creation of \"Barney\"""
Ms. Leach described the creation of Barney, a dinosaur on children's television, and the resulting highly successful television series, videos for the home, and products such as toys and clothing. Ms. Leach said she had been trying to find non-violent programming for her own toddler and created "Barney" out of necessity. Ms. Leach spoke to an audience of journalists and their children, and answered questions from the audience.
