American Legion Post, History & Heritage plan Vietnam discussion with Kalb, Nov. 20

Longtime CBS and NBC journalist Marvin Kalb plans to discuss the ways in which the Vietnam War impacted presidential decision-making on Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the National Press Club's Murrow Room. This event is free and open to the public but reservations are encouraged.

The discussion is expected in an interview format, with questions presented by NPC President Myron Belkind, History and Heritage Committee Chairman Gil Klein, and Post 20 Commander Ken Dalecki.

The event comes as part of the nation's official commemoration of the 50th anniversary of major events in the Vietnam War.

The NPC's American Legion Post 20 has joined as a commemorative partner with the Department of Defense’s official Vietnam anniversary program. Post 20 and the NPC's History and Heritage Committee are sponsoring this event, aimed at honoring Vietnam veterans and educating the public about the Vietnam War.

Kalb is the author of two books on the subject -- The Road to War: Presidential Commitments Honored and Betrayed and Haunting Legacy: Vietnam and the American Presidency from Ford to Obama. Kalb was the founding director of the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics, and Public Policy, and he hosts the Kalb Report, a program on media ethics and responsibility at the Press Club.
