Photo Team to hear about news photography at Nuremberg trials, Oct. 15
National Press Club's Photography Team will learn how the Nuremberg trials after World War II helped change photojournalism. The speaker is team vice-chair Noël-Marie Fletcher, author of the new book, "Reporting the Nuremberg Trials: How Journalists Covered Live Nazi Trials and Executions," published by Pen and Sword History. The meeting is free and open to all National Press Club members, but registration is required.

Nov. 20 marks the 80th anniversary of the first Nuremberg trials of Nazi war criminals. The U.S. Army held the trial for 23 defendants, with news coverage by 325 journalists in the press box. Today the memory of the Nuremberg trials remains largely due to the press coverage by journalists of the Greatest Generation.
Noël will explain how publicity was a main consideration for Allied authorities, so the latest innovations and technology were incorporated into the courtroom to enhance news coverage of the trial. This was an early success for cameras and newsreels in the courtroom as well as films as evidence.
Last month, her book won first place for non-fiction history from the National Federation of Press Women.
