Members of the National Press Club's International Correspondents Committee held their latest Embassy Night on Sept. 17 at the residence of Lithuanian Ambassador Audra Plepytė, who has represented her country in the U.S. since 2024.

National Press Club President Emily Wilkins accompanied the ICC members, and shared remarks alongside the ambassador, Plepytė, who has had a storied career as a diplomat and ambassador to a variety of countries and organizations, including the United Nations. She received an official NPC mug as a thank-you gift from Wilkins; and Wilkins in return received a book on culinary dishes. The Embassy shared cultural dishes, trivia, and open conversation with Club members.

In an official statement to the Club, Plepytė said: "Lithuania knows well what it is like to live under oppression and have no press freedom. This is why freedom of expression, so hardly fought for, is cherished by our people. And this is why Lithuania continues to stand with journalists working under restrictive regimes and their right to inform the public freely and safely."

The Embassy Night series aims to connect journalists and communicators with ambassadors, press counselors and other diplomats. Recent hosts have included Australia, the Philippines, Rwanda, Guatemala, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Norway, Uzbekistan, Serbia, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Taiwan and Jordan.

This was a unique opportunity for Club members to mingle with diplomats, the ambassador and her aides, and to exchange conversation in anticipation of the 79th Session of the the United Nations General Assembly, Sept. 24-28.
