American Legion Post 20 takes break for July, August, meets again Sept. 3
The American Legion Post 20 affiliated with the National Press Club is taking a break from monthly meetings during July and August, and will resume with a meeting planned for Sept. 3 featuring guest speaker Brigadier Gen. Robert Hastings (ret.), former principal deputy assistant secretary of defense for public affairs and author of "PEOPLE FIRST, MISSION ALWAYS: Lessons from 40 Years in the Leadership Laboratory of Military Service."
The meeting will start at noon in the McClendon Room of the Club's Reliable Source restaurant. More details will be published as the date draws closer. As has been the case since the COVID-19 pandemic disruptions, the meeting will be in person and also on Zoom for those who can't make it to the Club that day.
The post last met June 10 with a look ahead to the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Navy, which has been doing a series of events all year in celebration, with a special week of activities in Philadelphia in mid-October. The Sept. 3 Post 20 program will focus on the Army experience of the speaker.
Post 20 has been affiliated with the Press Club for more than a century. It was founded at the suggestion of famed World War I General John J. Pershing, who was an associate member of the Press Club at the time.
