Trade and Economic Issues
Newly appointed Commerce Secretary Kantor spoke about international trade and the American economy in the next century. He talked about the growth in the U.S. economy and the Clinton administration's programs to which he attributed this growth. He compared the present U.S. economy to the period of transition from an agriculture-based economy to a manufacturing-based economy. Mr. Kantor was appointed commerce secretary following the death of Secretary Ron Brown in a plane crash on a trade mission to Bosnia.
