Smashmouth

Mr. Milbank, White House correspondent for the Washington Post, discussed his book Smashmouth: Two Years in the Gutter with Al Gore and George W. Bush Notes from the 2000 Campaign Trail, published by Basic Books. He spoke of the two major points in his book, which were food and negative politics. Milbank said that he noticed that journalist were fed great amounts of food which made them "docile" and "sluggish" creating better press for the candidates. In the book, Mr. Milbank discusses the impact of negative campaigning on leadership, government, and the public.
