Event Spotlight – Discovery "Rival Survival" Launch

The Discovery Channel, in order to launch a new television program, came to the National Press Club for a press breakfast. The program, a known as “Rival Survival”, featured two U.S. Senators—Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and Senator Martin Heinrich (D-NM). The program placed two Senators of different political parties on an uninhabited island this past summer, forcing them to put politics aside to survive for one week away from Washington and their obligations as U.S. elected officials. We spoke with Paul Schur, VP of Publicity at Discovery about their event.

Why did you choose The National Press Club to host your event?

The Rival Survival event was a press event for a program that combined survival, real life and politics – NPC was a great venue for us to reach the broad community of reporters, bloggers, and news producers in Washington, DC.
