Did you know that the Club's Young Members Committee hosts a monthly gathering featuring discussions with top journalists and communicators? The committee's next "Piano Lesson," as the gatherings are called, is at 6:30 p.m. tonight in the McClendon Room. It will feature Derek Willis of ProPublica. New Smithsonian leader to speak at luncheon, Dec. 8
David Skorton, new secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, will outline his plans for the institution at a National Press Club luncheon on Tuesday, Dec. 8. A board-certified cardiologist, and the first physician to lead the Smithsonian Institution, Skorton previously was the president of Cornell University. Secretary of the Treasury, Nicholas Brady, spoke on the eve of the first anniversary of the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act of 1989, commonly called the "Savings and Loan Bailout."
