Alejandro Garcia Padilla, the governor of Puerto Rico, will speak at a National Press Club luncheon on Wednesday, Dec. 16. The island, a U.S. territory, is struggling under $70 billion of debt and suffering from shrinking economy that forces an increased number of Puerto Ricans to leave the island and seek better prospects on U.S. mainland. New Smithsonian head urges emphasis on arts and humanities, but not at expense of science
David Skorton, the new secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, made it clear Tuesday that he sees his organization’s mission in broad terms. The National Press Club has increased its number of Twitter followers from 9,000 to more than 12,000 over the last seven months, making substantial progress on one of the Club's highest priorities in 2015 -- strengthening its social-media presence.
