Puerto Rico governor to speak at Luncheon on Wednesday
Alejandro Garcia Padilla, the governor of Puerto Rico, will speak at a Club Luncheon on Wednesday, Dec. 16. The island, a U.S. territory, is struggling under $70 billion of debt and suffering from ashrinking economy that has seen an increased number of Puerto Ricans to leave the island. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m., with remarks beginning at 1 p.m., followed by questions and answers ending at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $23 for Club members and one guest, and $37 for non-members. Mexican minister to talk about bilateral relations with U.S. at Newsmaker
Claudia Ruiz Massieu, Mexico’s Minister of Foreign Affairs in August, will speak at a Newsmakers news conference at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Zenger Room. Burr of The Salt Lake Tribune Elected President of The National Press Club
Thomas Burr of The Salt Lake Tribune was elected Friday as president of the National Press Club, the world's leading professional organization for journalists. Burr, a Utahn who has served as a Washington correspondent for the Salt Lake City newspaper since 2005, will assume the presidency Jan. 15. He is a former president of the Regional Reporters Association and a past chairman of the Congressional Standing Committee of Correspondents. Panel named to advise Club's Board on how to spend proceeds from sale of Rockwell painting
The National Press Club announces the formation of a Financial Advisory Panel that will give advice to the Board of Governors' Budget Committee on long-term security and growth of the proceeds of the Norman Rockwell artwork sale. The six-person panel of Club members will meet for the first time this month. The panel will give advice on issues such as which firms will handle the money, allocation of the proceeds and investment strategy.
