Morgan's artwork on display at PG's Plaza Community Center, Aug. 13
Members are invited to the art reception in Hyattsville, Md., on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., for member Carol Morgan. Morgan's collages, paintings, and drawing will be on display at the Prince George's Plaza Community Center at 6600 Adelphi Road (Green line). Club honors journalists, expands fight for press freedom
Tricked by traffickers and savagely beaten, more than 2,000 enslaved fishermen were freed from brutal conditions at sea, thanks to dogged reporting by four Associated Press journalists honored August 4 at the National Press Club annual awards dinner. The “Seafood from Slaves” series by Martha Mendoza, Margie Mason, Robin McDowell and Esther Htusan tracked seafood coming into the United States from Southeast Asia where forced laborers were caged and held for years. A Chance for Future Victories
President Walesa talked about the "battle against communism." He said he wanted to remind the audience of all the changes that were made without much violence, "without a shot." He explained that after the victory the Polish government does not know how to operate, but needs to continue to win victories in independence. He talked about the need for a dialogue between the United States and Poland. Translation into English was by an interpreter. During President Walesa's visit, President Bush announced that the United States would forgive 70 percent of Poland's debt to the U.S.

The National Press Club’s Book & Author Committee plans to present a Book Rap on Monday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the Conference Rooms featuring Gary Vikan, who led Baltimore’s Walters Art Museum for nearly two decades.
