So as to not conflict with the presidential debate scheduled for the original night, the National Press Club’s Book & Author Committee has rescheduled the Book Rap featuring Gary Vikan and his memoir Sacred and Stolen: Confessions of a Museum Director to Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the NPC’s Conference Rooms. Summer vacation for the Fourth Estate restaurant: Aug. 22 to Sept. 6; Reliable Source open
The National Press Club's Fourth Estate Restaurant will be closed for two weeks beginning Monday, Aug. 22. It will reopen for regular dining hours beginning Tuesday, Sep 6. But for National Press Club fans of the restaurant, all is not lost. Club members can still enjoy lunch and dinner in the Reliable Source restaurant on the 14th floor.

Actor Michael York raises profile of the rare disease amyloidosis at National Press Club Luncheon
British actor Michael York, speaking at a National Press Club luncheon Friday, described his struggles with the disease amyloidosis in an effort to raise awareness of the rare condition, which affects about 1 in 100,000 people. The actor, who starred in "The Three Musketeers" and various Austin Powers films, realized something was wrong when he began to develop dark spots under his eyes, which required he use additional stage makeup to cover up. Attention photographers! Final call for members' exhibit photos
This is it. The final deadline to enter your brilliant photos for the 17th annual National Press Club Members' Photography Exhibit is this Friday, Aug. 12. All entries must be submitted to the Club's membership office on the 13th floor by that date. Because of space limitations, NPC's Photography Committee gives preference to photos entered by the deadline. Up to four photos may be submitted by any NPC member, with a maximum overall size (print + mat) of 11 x 14 inches. Prints must be securely mounted on sturdy mounting board. Speaking before the National Press Club, television commentator David Frost discussed his recent trip to the Persian Gulf region and his March 20 interview with General Schwarzkopf. Johnstone's fictional journalist embarks on new adventure in "Chain Reaction"
Mike McCabe, the fictional DC-based journalist, creation of member Bill Johnstone, is on another adventure. A top criminal lawyer, missing while on vacation in Daytona Beach, Fla., and the discovery of a dead girl on the banks of the Potomac, send McCabe to Florida to expose the darker side of the new Cuban-American détente. Play Ball: NPC Night at Nationals Park on Sept. 10
Please join your fellow National Press Club members as we watch the Washington Nationals take on National League East rivals the Philadelphia Phillies. Game time is 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10. Tickets in our left field mezzanine section (a level lower than last year) are just $31 each, plus a small ticketing fee; guests of Club members are very welcome. Tickets must be purchased here.
