The 39th Annual National Press Club Book Fair & Authors’ Night, the region's premier holiday book event, continues to accept author applications through 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30. Applications and materials received after this period will not be reviewed. Applicants will be notified of committee decisions via email in October. All literary genres are considered however self-published books and books only available in e-format will not be accepted. Candidates for Teamster Union top offices to face off in one-time only Newsmaker/debate, Thursday Aug. 25
Candidates for the top offices of the Teamsters Union will debate one another at a special National Press Club Newsmaker in the club’s ballroom at 6:30 pm on Aug 25. Fred Zuckerman, candidate for general president on the Teamsters United slate, will face Ken Hall, candidate for general secretary-treasurer on the Hoffa-Hall 2016 slate. This will be the only election debate between the candidates. A Scientist Who Believes in Creationism
Mr. Mims described his controversy with Scientific American. He is a scientist, inventor, and writer who was a frequent contributor to the magazine until he told the editor that he believed in creationism instead of evolutionism. Sen. Chris Murphy to discuss guns at Sept. 8 NPC luncheon
U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, the Connecticut Democrat who led a filibuster to force votes on gun control measures, will address the subject at a club luncheon on Thursday, Sept. 8. Murphy spoke at the Democratic National Convention on the need for gun safety measures such as expanded background checks and a ban on gun sales to suspected terrorists. Both issues reached the Senate floor as part of a deal to end Murphy's filibuster but were killed by Senate Republicans.
