Imagine being able to call on legendary CBS Evening News anchor Walter Cronkite to do a radio broadcast when you needed to emphasize the importance of an historic event. As general manager of CBS Radio Network News, National Press Club board member Mike Freedman had that authority and used it judiciously. Secretary of Defense Ash Carter will discuss the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act at a Club luncheon on Thursday, Sept. 15. The NDAA authorizes defense spending and sets policy for the 12 months. House Republicans included a provision in their version of the bill to accommodate defense contractors' religious beliefs.
