The National Press Club is looking for leaders. Nominations are now officially open for 2017 Club officer positions and seats on the Board of Governors. The deadline to submit signatures is Friday, Oct. 28. Nominations for president require 25 signatures from Club members. All other positions require 15 signatures from Club members. Nominating signatures must match the category of the nominee: communicators should sign petitions for a communicator spot, journalists should sign petitions for journalist seats. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and the author of more than a dozen books, will speak at a National Press Club luncheon on Monday, Oct. 17. Abdul-Jabbar was the NBA’s Most Valuable Player six times during the 20 seasons he played for the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers. Vilsack mum on next steps in Luncheon speech
Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack declined to speculate on his future after President Barack Obama’s tenure ends early next year. “I don’t think anybody should be talking about what jobs are available or what’s going to happen after the election,” Vilsack said during a Luncheon Oct. 3. To our valued members, Good news! You're going to pay less next year to the National Press Club for your membership. The club has traditionally raised its dues about $1 a month every year in our professional categories to try and keep up with inflation, though even that increase doesn't cover theever-growing costs of food and beverage, electricity and the like.
