On a four day visit to Washington and New York, Boris Yeltsin, recently-elected leader of the Russian Republic, visited with President Bush in the White House and with members of Congress on Capitol Hill. Reminder: National Press Club closed Monday, Jan. 2 to observe New Year's Day
The National Press Club will close Jan. 2 in observance of New Year's Day. Because the holidays occur on Sunday this year, they also are observed on Monday. The club will reopen for business on Tuesday, Jan. 3. The club's officers, Board of Governors and staff wishes the membership a Happy New Year.

Journalism Institute seeks press freedom fellow
Want to help fight for press freedom? The National Press Club Journalism Institute is offering a press freedom fellowship to shine a light on barriers to press freedoms abroad and in the United States. Individuals with expertise or interest are invited to seek the one-year, part-time position. A monthly stipend will be provided. U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell will discuss the the impact of the Republican-promised repeal of the Affordable Care Act at a club luncheon Jan. 9.
