Kennedy Library to conclude JFK centennial year tour with program at Club, Jan. 31
For a year the John F. Kennedy Library has held seminars around the nation to discuss President Kennedy’s legacy on the centennial of his birth. That tour will wrap up at the National Press Club on Wednesday, Jan. 31, with a reception at 6 p.m. followed by a presentation at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the library’s findings on the relevance of Kennedy today. The Club's ace volunteer photographer, Noel St. John, will speak at the next meeting of the Photography Team, Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 12 noon in the Cosgrove Room. This event is free and open to all National Press Club members and their guests. St. John, the Team's photo coordinator, is a familiar presence at Club events and is responsible for many of the photos that accompany articles on the Wire and the Club's home page. Mary Kathryn Nagle, playwright of the new drama, "Sovereignty," plans to discuss Native American rights and the defense of the Violence Against Women Act at a National Press Club Headliners Newsmaker event on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 10 a.m. in the Club’s Bloomberg Room. Frank Kane, former Club governor and 48-year member, dies at 92
Frank R. Kane, a retired Washington correspondent for The Toledo Blade and a 48-year member of the NPC, died Jan. 5 at a retirement community in Midlothian, Va., where he had lived for the last four years. He was 92. His career at The Blade spanned coverage of Toledo city hall, the Ohio statehouse and the nation's capital. He retired in 1984 after more than a decade in the Washington bureau and a final four years working in Toledo as national news editor and assistant managing editor for features. The National Press Club and its non-profit affiliate arm, the National Press Club Journalism Institute, will hold a news conference at 2 p.m. tomorrow (Friday) to discuss developments in the asylum case of Mexican journalist Emilio Gutierrez. An exploratory committee will meet tonight at 6 p.m. in the Truman Lounge to discuss the National Press Club potentially participating in the July 4 Palisades Parade in D.C. The one-hour meeting will by the piano in the lounge.
