Journalists and the people they cover to discuss civility Aug. 4
Reporters, press secretaries and outside observers will convene at the Club on Friday, Aug. 4, to discuss ways of improving the discourse on Capitol Hill. Get those entries ready for annual NPC members' photo exhibit
It's time to get your two best photos printed and mounted for the 18th annual National Press Club members' photo exhibit. Entries will be accepted from July 31 to Aug. 11. The exhibit is the Club's annual celebration of visual storytelling by its members. The exhibit runs in September in the Club's main lobby. Because of space limitations, members can enter no more than two photos in the main exhibit that have not been previously displayed at the Club. Conservative Republican group seeks to eliminate independent congressional scorekeeper
The Freedom Caucus, the group of the most conservative members of the House Republican conference, will seek to stop the Congressional Budget Office from offering independent analyses of congressional legislation. Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), who chairs the caucus, said at a July 24 National Press Club Headliners Luncheon that the group would seek to eliminate 89 jobs and instead have the CBO aggregate estimates made by ideological think tanks such as the Heritage Foundation and the Brookings Institution. The Ann Cottrell Free Animal Reporting Award honors the best journalism on animals and their welfare each year. The award is given as part of the National Press Club journalism contest. The top work in 2017 in the broadcast and print/online categories will be honored with the award. The deadline for entries is April 1. The contest is open to Club members and non-members.
