The art of the smear: Attkisson on the story behind her new book
The best smears are based on a grain of truth, often a verbal slip-up identified from 24/7 tracking of every word spoken or written by a public figure, which is then escalated into a smear. Members' photo exhibit now open, continues through Sept. 29
The 2017 National Press Club members' photo exhibit is now open for viewing in the Club's main lobby. The exhibit officially kicked off with a reception on the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 6, and will continue through Sept. 29. This year's exhibit features story-telling images from 49 Club members displaying a total of 174 photos in print and electronic form. Contributions from 25 members in the print exhibit include images seen only in the Club lobby, such as art forms found in bomb racks and missles aboard an aircraft carrier by Craig Shearman, close-ups of Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton…

This fall you can head back to class and work with the National Press Club’s own Peter Lovenheim, an award-winning author, to craft your own truths or the remarkable true stories around you into rich, compelling narratives. Events in the Soviet Union
Ambassador Strauss was confirmed as U.S. ambassador to the Soviet Union in August of this year. He was chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1973 to 1976. He was named special trade representative under President Jimmy Carter, and served as a representative to the Middle East negotiations. Mr. Strauss discussed the unfolding events in the Soviet Union, including the Soviet economic infrastructure and future policy objectives. After his presentation, Ambassador Strauss answered questions.

NPC Book Fair & Authors' Night continues to accept author applications
The region’s premiere holiday book event is back at the National Press Club for the 40th year and is now accepting author applications through 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29. Applications received after the deadline will not be reviewed. All literary genres are considered, however self-published books and books only available in e-format will not be accepted. The application fee of $75 for Club members and $150 for non-members is due and payable upon acceptance to the Book Fair. Graham, Woodward plan to speak at Fourth Estate Dinner honoring Kornheiser, Wilbon
Bob Woodward and Donald Graham plan to join join Maury Povich and John Skipper as speakers roasting and toasting this year's Fourth Estate Award Winners, sports journalists Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser, co-hosts of ESPN’s “Pardon the Interruption," on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
