Economic and Political Reforms in Thailand
Prime Minister Anand Panyarachun outlined the economic and political reforms that are taking place in Thailand, and discussed some of the difficulties his government has faced, such as a growing AIDS epidemic. The prime minister is a former ambassador to the United States and Canada, and also served as his nation's representative to the United Nations. He became prime minister in March of this year.

Rachael Elizabeth Bail, a journalist, playwright, producer and 41-year member of the National Press Club, died August 27 at her home in Arlington, Va. NEA president criticizes plan to end DACA, but hopes Congress will fix it

NPC Headliners event presents CIA analysis of Soviet Navy
A panel of CIA analysts and Navy historians presented a collection of newly declassified documents on the Soviet Navy at the National Press Club Headliners Newsmaker on September 6. The CIA's Historical Review Program partnered with the National Museum of the U.S. Navy and the Naval Historical Foundation to release the records. The 82 intelligence reports, spanning the 1960s and 1980s, focus on the strategic efforts and consequences of the Soviet Union's plan to develop its naval force.
