The First Amendment protects the press against government censorship, but could the biggest threat to press freedom come from private, monied interests? That's the question posed by "Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press," a provocative documentary by director Brian Knappenberger that Netflix is bringing to the National Press Club at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19. Robert Meins, executive director of the Lightscape Foundation, will discuss the Washington edition of the World Press Photo Exhibition at a luncheon meeting of the National Press Club Photo Team at noon Tuesday, Oct. 10, in the McClendon Room. Library of Congress reference librarians will provide a tour of the Main Reading Room -- including a briefing on how to conduct research and an overview of the art, architecture and history of the library -- for National Press Club members on Monday, Oct. 9. Schutte served just three months as the National Press Club's fifth president in 1913, but he went on to cover World War I from the German side for the Chicago Daily News until the United States entered the war in 1917.
