Love books? Volunteer at the National Press Club Book Fair, Nov. 10
The National Press Club's 40th annual Book Fair needs volunteers to escort authors, greet customers, hand out bags and help out wherever needed when book lovers descend on the ballroom on Friday, Nov. 10. The book fair runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The volunteer will work either the 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. shift or the 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. shift so volunteers will have plenty of time to do their own shopping. Volunteer will either be assigned to a section of the room to assist the authors in any way needed or at the entry door to greet people and hand out bags. Volunteers receive free entry to…

What tales a ring can tell. Oswald F. Schuette, who had been National Press Club president for just three months in 1913, died in the Club’s lobby in 1953 of a massive heart attack just after he pushed the elevator’s down button. Schuette’s death came just weeks after he received the coveted “black ring” created that year to be presented to every Club president, past and future.
