The night the Club became 'Playboy Mansion East': Snippet of Press Club history
Snippet #28: "Playboy Mansion East": It was a night to remember in 1979 when editor-publisher Hugh Hefner and two dozen of his lovely friends took over the National Press Club ballroom to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Playboy's founding. For one evening the Club was the Playboy Mansion East. The National Press Club -- where news (sometimes beautiful news) is made in the nation's capital. This Club history snippet is one of the many put…

Parnes and her co-author, Jonathan Allen, said their title worked either way -- If Clinton won it would be that she shattered the glass ceiling and if (when) she lost it was a shattered campaign. The complete title of the book is "Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton's Doomed Campaign." The authors interviewed more than 100 people who…

Press freedom advocates decry latest restraint on journalism
Our organizations, all of which advocate for journalists in the U.S. and across the globe, believe we must sound the alarm about what happened this week to veteran Washington reporter John M. Donnelly. While covering a meeting of the Federal Communications Commission for his employer, CQ Roll Call, Donnelly was pinned against a wall by security forces when he tried to ask a post-press conference question of departing commissioners. He later was forcibly evicted from the public building — despite clearly identifying himself as a member of the press and displaying the Capitol Hill press…
